1960 & 1961 Football Teams, 2007
These two teams, coached by Blue Howse, were the most successful of any in GHS history, going two straight years undefeated. The 1960 team allowed only 2 touchdowns to be scored against it. The 1960 team went 9-0 and won the Red River Valley Conference Championship. The 1961 team went 10-0 and also won the RRVC Championship. Over this two-year period, these two teams outscored their opponents by a total of 651 to 47.
The win streak for these two teams actually began at the end of the 1959 season when many of these same players won the last three games of the 1959 season finishing as Strawberry Bowl Champions. The win streak was the longest in the state and continued into the 1962 season, ending with an 18-6 loss to Charlotte. The win streak covered 24 games and has provided a great deal of pride and inspiration to the heritage of Greenbrier Football over time.
