Roy Anderson, 2005
Roy was involved in basketball and baseball between 1942-46. He was captain of the basketball team his senior year.
Roy's junior year, the team went 24-1, losing only in the semi-finals of the Unit (Region) tournament to West High School. In his senior season, the team again went 24-1, again losing in the semi-final round of the Unit tournament, but this time to North High School. Roy said, "I remember Coach Carter as my first coach. He was the reason I went to GHS. I almost went to Springfield, but he talked me into going to GHS and I'm proud I did." Roy played baseball after high school. As a pitcher, he never lost a game. He was offered a job with the New York Farm Team for $100 a month, plus room and board. He broke his arm pitching on July 4th and that ended his athletic career. |
