Gary Bedwell, 2019
Gary graduated from GHS in 1969. He was a member of the basketball team for 4 years and the baseball team for 3 years.
In basketball, Gary was a starter three year, scoring over 1,300 career points. Awards and recognitions he received were: most valuable player, leading scorer, leading rebounder, and best free-throw shooter. His senior year, he was selected to the 20th District All-Tournament Team and the Greenbrier Lions Club Invitational Tournament All-Tournament Team. He was also named All-Mid-State Honorable Mention.
Gary was a 3-year starter on the baseball team, being a member of the first ever team fielded by GHS.
After high school, Gary accepted a basketball scholarship to Trevecca Nazarene University where he played for 4 years.
He considers the highlight of his playing career was when, in the 1968 20th District Tournament his team beat East Robertson, Gallatin, and then Hendersonville (on its home court) to advance to the Region V Tournament played at Nashville's Municipal Auditorium. In the game against Hendersonville, he scored 36 points.
