Bobby Choate, 2011

Picture
Bobby Choate was a member of the 1961 graduating class of Greenbrier High School. Bobby displayed his athletic prowess on the gridiron and the basketball court of Greenbrier high school from 1957- 1961. Bobby is remembered by Coach Blue Howse as the hard hitter pound for pound in his day at Greenbrier High School.

Bobby served as captain of the undefeated football team his senior year of 1960,and lists the highlight of his athletic career as winning the conference football championship in 1960.

Bobby continued his involvement in athletics after graduation by coaching little league baseball and Jr. Pro Football and continuing to play basketball and softball for organized leagues.

His most memorable events including running 10 yards ahead of the defense looking to score a touchdown and dropping the ball. The result was being tackled by the entire defense. He also recalls being behind 14-0 at
one game and coach Howse keeping the team on the field during halftime to participate in a few head on tackling drills. They returned to win the game in the second half. I suppose we were scared of what Coach
Howse may do after the game if we lost, he said.
