Renee Dorris, 2019
Renee is a 1980 graduate of GHS. From 1976-1980 she was a member of the basketball, volleyball and softball teams.
Competing at championship levels is well-known to her. Here's what her 4 years of basketball shows:
Renee was a big part of the inaugural volleyball team at GHS in 1977-78. That team won the District Tournament and she was selected to the All-Tournament team. Her junior year, the team finished with a record of 32-4, won the District Tournament, and she was again selected to the All-Tournament team. In her senior year, the team made its first appearance in the State Tournament in school history and she was named to the All-District , All-Tournament, and All-State teams.
As a member of the GHS softball team, she was a big part of the 1978 team that won the County Championship with a record of 27-4.
She attended University of Tennessee-Martin where she played volleyball and basketball.
Renee is an outstanding coach at GHS. She coached volleyball for 7 years and led the team to back-to-back state titles in 2007 and 2008. She coached wrestling for 5 years and has been the cross country coach since 2012.
In 2012, the American Sport Education Program selected her as a Master Coach. She was one of only six coaches across the country to receive this prestigious honor. For the 2004-05 school year, she was named the A.F. Bridges Coach of the Year by the TSSAA.
