Steve Edging, 2008
Steve is a 1962 graduate. He served as captain of the basketball team for three years and was named District 20 Most Valuable Player during the district tournament his senior year. In football, Steve excelled as co-captain his senior year and was named to the All Red River Conference Team both his junior and senior years. He was a member of the outstanding 1960 and 1961 football teams that went undefeated both seasons.
After graduating from GHS, Steve received a football scholarship to Mississippi State University where he played for two seasons. He then transferred to Middle Tennessee State University to complete his playing career in 1965 and 1966. His senior year, he was named to the All Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Team as a free safety. Upon graduating college, Steve became a teacher and coach, teaching science and biology, while coaching football, basketball and baseball in the high school ranks. |
