Richard E. Parker, 2009
Richard is a 1946 graduate of GHS. He played both football and basketball for the Bobcats.
During his junior year, the basketball team had a 17-game win streak. They claimed the Sixth District Championship with a 3-point win over Springfield. They then defeated Clarksville in the first round of the Unit (Regional) tournament at West High School in Nashville. In the semi-finals, they lost to West High School, giving them a season record of 24-1. In his senior year Richard served as captain of the team. They again had a perfect regular season and again claimed the Sixth District Championship. They again made it to the semi-finals of the Unit tourney where they lost to North Nashville High School. There two-year record was 52-2. |
Richard continued his athletic career after graduation, playing both basketball and baseball. Following college, he played amateur golf and baseball, in addition to enjoying fishing and hunting.Richard had a 42-year career with the Boy Scouts of America. After retiring from the BSA, he owned and operated a sports fishing business in Alaska.
