Earl Suter, 2006
A graduate of 1947, Earl played on the varsity basketball team beginning his 8th grade year. He was an important member of the teams that had the great three-year run from 1944-47 that won 72 of their 75 games. All three loses came in the semi-final rounds of the Unit (Region) tournaments. He was alternate captain of the team his senior year. In addition, he was named to the Unit All Tournament Team his senior year.
Football was discontinued during the World War II period, but when it was revived in 1946, Earl was a member of the 6-man team. Earl fondly remembered being coached by his older brother, Jimmy Suter, and playing with brothers Turner and Joe. The greatest compliment of his playing days was given by fellow Hall of Fame member, Hugh Johnson, who said Earl was the best all-round athlete at Greenbrier High during this time. |
