Jimmy Suter, 2005
Jimmy played basketball, football and baseball for 4 years before graduating in 1938. Two highlights of his athletic career were hitting a home run his first-ever time at bat as a freshman and running an intercepted pass from one end zone to the other for a touchdown.
After college, Jimmy returned to GHS as a teacher and coach for 7 years. His greatest memory as a coach was GHS winning the district tournament for the very first time. While at GHS, both the football and baseball fields were developed. He remembered that the then agriculture teacher at GHS, James Whitlow, help with the construction, including digging the holes for the light poles by hand. Jimmy went on to coach at Springfield High for 32 years. |
