Johnny Warren, 2009
Johnny participated in both basketball and golf during the 1990-1994 seasons.
In basketball, he scored 40 points in one game his freshman year. His 3-point shots would excite the student body. He served as team captain his senior year. Johnny is recognized as perhaps one of the most proficient golf athletes in school history. In his freshman year of 1991, he placed as 4th medalist. The following 3 seasons saw him qualify for the State Tournament, placing in the top 20 in each. In 1993, he was named the District Golfer of the Year. During his senior season he went undefeated through regional play to advance to the state. He was the first golfer from GHS to qualify for the State Tournament. After graduation, Johnny joined the Middle Tennessee State University golf team as a walk-on. He was the first walk-on to make the 5-man travel team. In the spring of 1997, he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that tragically took his life in April 1997. In his memory, the Johnny Warren Foundation was established to provide academic scholarship opportunities for future GHS students. |
