Ernest Gillie "Toad" West, 2006
Toad was a member of the 1929-30 basketball team that finished third in the state. He was a player/manager for the team, but dressed and participated in several games during the season.
He also was member of the first football team at Greenbrier High, and is remembered as a very good football player. A veteran of World War II, he was a life-long resident of Greenbrier operating the City Cafe and the Coal and Ice Store for many years. He received his nickname for jumping into mud puddles while walking to school. |
