Tommy Williamson, 2018
Tommy, a 1978 graduate, is recognized as both an athlete and a coach at GHS.
From 1974-78, Tommy was a member of the football team. During that time, the team had 25 wins and 18 losses. In his junior year, the team won the Industrial Bowl Championship. In his senior year, the team was the District 8AA Champions and made the state play-offs. Tommy was recognized as All Mid-State Honorable Mention. In basketball, the team made the Regional Tournaments all 4 years that Tommy played. In addition, in his senior year, the team finished second in the Robertson County Invitational Tournament, second place in the Vol State Conference Tournament and third place in the District 8AA Tournament. As a player, Tommy is probably best known for his baseball. He played all for years in high school. In both his junior and senior years, he was named to both the All District and All County teams. He was also named the team's Most Valuable Player both years. Tommy signed a scholarship to play baseball at Volunteer State Community College. After graduating from college, Tommy returned to Greenbrier as a teacher at Greenbrier Middle School. He coached baseball at GHS for 27 years (1991-2018), compiling a fantastic record of 510 wins against 299 losses.. His impressive record includes the following:
In 2013, Tommy also began coaching the GHS Golf Team where he has also enjoyed success. His Boys' Team was District Champion once and Runner-Up twice. His boys' team has advanced to the Regionals three times and his Girls' Team once.. He has also had 5 boys and 1 girl advance to the Regional Tournament and 1 boy advance to the State Tournament. |
