1983-84 Boys Basketball Team, 2023 

 The 1983-84 version of the Bobcat round-ballers won the district 10-AA and region 5-AA championship as well as the sub-state game which earned them a spot in the State Tournament at Vanderbilt University.   This was the first team since the 1929-30 team to make it to the State Tourney. Although they fell in the first round to Knoxville Austin East, they still made GHS and the community proud of their accomplishment.

They won 26 games that year, which is the most wins by any basketball team in school history. Members of the team were: Manager Willie Hodges, Manager Chris Villines, Kerry Drury, Mickey Elder, Junior Thaxton, Chris Hughes, Roger Hulsey, Jeff Conquest, Mike Ballard, Gregg Crain, Scott Mclean, Jimmy Whitman, Jimmy Eidson, Troy Smiley, and Ronnie Clinard.
