Ann Suter Casteel, 2008
Ann is a 1950 graduate of GHS and is still recognized and talked about as one of its best girls basketball players of all time. She played from 1946-50. She served as captain of her team and was a mid-state scoring leader. For three straight years she was voted "best female athlete" by the student body.
During her playing time, Ann had a career high of 39 points in one game. That was a major accomplishment for its day considering the slower pace of play of the 6-on-6 format. She also sank 50 straight free throws. After completing her high school career, Ann signed to play with Nashville Business College where she continued her athletic accomplishments. Although a serious knee injury ended her basketball career, she has stayed active with golf and bowling over the years. She has two holes-in-one to her credit, as well as wins in various tournaments and challenges. |
