Becky Gibbs Legate, 2023
Becky was a member of the graduating class of 1986. She was a member of the softball, volleyball and basketball teams at GHS. Becky was selected to the All-District Team in Volley ball for 2 years, but she was best known for her success on the basketball court where she played for her father Coach Weldon Jake Gibbs (who is also a member of the GHS Athletic Hall of Fame).
She led her team to the 1986 State Tournament Final 4, where they lost a heartbreaker to eventual State Champion South Greene. Her basketball accomplishments include: 3-Time All-District Team, 3-Time All-District Tournament Team, 1986 District MVP, 2-Time All-Region Tournament Team, 2-Time All Mid-State Team, and in 1986 she was chosen on the All-State Tournament Team for Class Mand she became the only player in GHS history to make 1st Team All-State in Girls Basketball. Her amazing basketball talent earned her a full scholarship to Belmont University where she played four years for the Late Tony Cross. She is currently the head coach of the CPA Girls Basketball Team. Coach Legate considers playing in the 1986 State Tournament as the highlight of her playing career and she thoroughly enjoyed all of her amazing teammates that she got to play with especially her sister. She also enjoyed the amazirg support of the Greenbrier community. |
